Purpose: To understand Instructor types as given in the Kukkiwon textbook.

  • In the early days of martial arts training, instructors often presented themselves as being hard and rigid with strong personalities. As martial arts became more commercialized the concept of instruction changed in accordance with the  philosophy of each organization and instructor. Martial Arts organizations adapted a business like model. As a result, depending on the situation, instructors can be managers, leaders , mentors, counselors and coaches. As stated in the textbook, an instructor's leadership type, instruction policy and instruction methods have direct influences over the trainees.
